Live Illustrated Portraits:

Yes, I am that strange person sitting in the corner at parties, surrounded by crayons…

…but that’s because I am a live portrait illustrator, going to various celebrations to create drawings of the guests right then and there. It is informal and comfortable, as my lovely subjects chat away and enjoy a snack while they are transformed into illustrated characters right before their eyes.

I started out doing live portraits in 2022, when I did 30-second pen drawings for children at a local fun day. Since then I have been illustrating at local fairs, where I now spend a luxurious 5 minutes per portrait.

  • Do you remember when you were a child, counting down the days to your birthday party? Your parents were going to rent an inflatable water-slide, your big sister was going to do face-painting, you’d driven around town with your mom to find the strange woman who makes your favourite peaches and custard cake… yes, I am reminiscing about my own 10th birthday.
    I’ll get to the point:
Those things that make a party memorable are often the special touches: the water-slide, the face-painting, the best cake. But, alas, you can’t keep them. The slide deflates, the face-paint washes off, and the cake gets completely devoured (and I only got one slice!)
However, that’s the unusual thing about Live Illustrated Portraits: it is both an experience and a memento - something to do and something to keep. It’s like having your cake and eating it too!

Whether you are hosting a children’s party, planning a wedding, or organising a golden anniversary celebration, a live portrait illustrator is a wonderful way to make the event even more fun and memorable: it is a unique form of entertainment and everyone gets to take home a very special keep-sake.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • I am based in Somerset, England, but will happily do events anywhere in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. I’ll even go to Scotland if you really want me to, but preferably in summer.

    Travel costs:
Travel fees are waived within a 10 mile radius of the village of Street, Somerset. Outside of this, travel is priced at 50p per mile.  All travel fees will be clearly shown in your no-obligation quote.

    Accommodation:
It may be necessary for me to stay over somewhere if I have to travel far, or if the party is a late one, so I will need enough time beforehand to book accommodation, under £100 per night. These costs and options will be clearly shown in your quote. (And, hey, I might even be happy to sleep on your sister's best friend's couch, if it's comfy.)

  • I offer two main packages: for children and for grown-ups.

    Children's Party Portraits

    Children's Party Pot-Luck

    Grown-Up Party Portraits

Grown-Up Party Full Kit & Caboodle

I provide the necessary "ingredients" including paper, packaging and all my drawing supplies. I will draw as many guests as I can in the time, and they will get a completely unique memento to take home.
For more specific information about each option, please follow the links above, and read all the FAQs.

  • Prices for live illustrations are dependant on the nature of your event and your exact needs, but when you contact me with the details, I will provide you with a no-obligation quote, detailing the fee including hours, travel costs and anything else that may be necessary.

My fees start from £100 per hour, with a minimum booking of 2 hours. You can book me for up to 6 hours a day, but I will need a 20 min break every 2 hours to save my drawing arm, and will also need time to set up beforehand and pack away afterwards.
I do offer a discretionary discount if you are booking multiple days at once.

I am based in Somerset, England and travel costs within a 10 mile radius of the village of Street are not added on. For events further afield, travel costs (and accommodation, if necessary) will be calculated fairly, and clearly shown in your quote.

We can discuss the quote, and if you’re happy to book, I will give you a final quote, which will be the final fee. (If anyone at your event would like a digital file of their illustration, they will be able to order and pay for that separately.) A 50% deposit is then required to secure your booking. This is non-refundable unless the event has to be cancelled due an act of God. During the week after the event I will send an invoice for the rest, and this will be due within the following 30 days.

More details can be found in the Options below.

The Live Illustration Options:

Please note that all artwork I create at these events remains my intellectual property.

The drawings may be shared on social media crediting me, but may not be used for commercial gain. If someone would like to use the illustrations as an avatar or even a Christmas card, I offer the option of ordering a digital file of the drawing for a small additional fee. This digital version will be nicely cleaned up and come as a PNG file, so it can be printed on anything, up to A4 size.
But again: just for personal use, not for commercial gain!
